Author Dorit Sasson coming to PJC
The author of Accidental Soldier, Dorit Sasson will speak about her service in the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) at Parkway Jewish Center on Sunday November 19, 2017. The program will be followed by brunch and an early opportunity to shop at the Sisterhood’s Chanukah Gift shop.
At age nineteen, Dorit Sasson, a dual American-Israeli citizen, was trying to make the status quo work as a college student—until she realized that if she didn’t distance herself from her neurotic, worrywart of a mother, she would become just like her. Accidental Soldier: A Memoir of Service and Sacrifice in the Israel Defense Forces is Sasson’s story of how she dropped out of college and volunteered for the Israel Defense Forces in an effort to change her life—and how, in stepping out of her comfort zone and into a war zone, she discovered courage and faith she didn’t know she was capable of.
Friday Night Fusion CD
Do you remember Cantor Berlin’s popular and beautiful Friday Night Fusion programs when we had our own band playing us through the Kabbalat Shabbat service? In honor of those great times and as tzedukah for the congregation, Cantor Berlin has assembled the old gang again to make a professional recording of the Friday Night Fusion service and donated 100 CD’s of this recording to PJC. He suggests that people wanting a copy of the CD make at least an $18 contribution to the congregation. We could really use that $1,800. Please contact the office or, better yet, come for services and get your copy soon.

Memories of Mr. Goppman
Here are three of the many pages where Allan Goppman appeared in Pittsburgh’s Jewish newspapers over the years. First, his engagement announcement in 1945. Then a column about his activities at Duquesne University. And third, a picture and article from 1991 when he was involved with donating a Torah to a shul in Israel.
